OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy is a holistic, evidence-based profession that helps people of all ages live life to the fullest of their abilities and to acquire or relearn the skills needed to perform occupations (or activities) of daily life. Occupational therapy is a vast field of study, which can be applied to people of all ages across any setting or environment. Pediatric occupational therapists help children become as independent as possible in their occupations, which can range from activities like eating and sleeping to participating at school to being a big brother or sister. Play is the means by which the therapist motivates the child to challenge themselves and to work towards improving their skills.

At Sprocket Therapy, occupational therapists apply sensorimotor principles and a strong understanding of primitive reflex integration to address functional deficits in all areas of occupation. We also work closely with the families of our patients to ensure that we facilitate as much carryover as possible in the home. Therapists collaborate closely with families to set goals and to make a plan for how best to address each child’s specific needs. We understand that no two kids are alike, even if they struggle with the same issues.
The behaviors/traits listed above are only a very small example of skills that OT can address. If your child struggles with daily tasks, activities, behavior and social skills as compared to kids of a similar age, it's very likely that they would benefit from occupational therapy services.
