"Hello! My name is Bailey Womack, and I am a licensed speech-language pathologist. 'Speech therapist' is a commonly used term, but I always like to add in "language," as we work on so much more than speech! I love the vast scope of practice in the field of speech-language pathology (SLP), which is one of the reasons I was drawn to it. Speech, language, and communication are essential to what make us human, and it is a privilege to help others communicate!
I was born in a small town called Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, but I have been in Nashville for most of my life. I consider Nashville my home. I love this city, and it is exciting to see it grow! I attended the University of Tennessee, where I received a Bachelor's degree in SLP. A few years ago, I embarked on an adventure by moving to Vermont, where I pursued a Master's degree in SLP at the University of Vermont. I had no connections to the state, but it is a magical place, and I was fortunate enough to live there and experience its greatness!
After graduate school, SLPs are required to complete a 9-month '"clinical fellowship," which is our first job basically. I began in a skilled nursing facility in southern Vermont, where I had the honor of working with adults in long-term care and assisted living facilities to help them improve speech, language, and/or swallowing abilities. I moved back to Nashville, and finished the remainder of the fellowship in early intervention, working with the birth to 3 population. I very much enjoyed both of these settings. It was amazing and humbling to work with such a span of people, from the beginning to the end of life. Currently, I work in a middle and high school, where I provide speech-language services to students with a broad range of abilities! All of the work I have done so far as an SLP has been highly rewarding and invaluable. I will become full-time on the Sprocket team starting this summer.
I am deeply grateful and excited to be a part of the Sprocket family! It is such a wonderful place for everyone involved! One of my (many) favorite aspects of Sprocket Therapy Solutions is the interdisciplinary and connected approach between occupational therapy and speech therapy. This creates an effective dynamic and supportive environment for our clients to be successful."
